Compensation: Compensation for this position ranges between $18 and $24 per hour, commensurate with experience and qualifications.

Position Overview

Habitat for Humanity of Washington, D.C. & Northern Virginia (Habitat DC-NOVA) seeks a resourceful and enthusiastic individual to join our team as our Real Estate Intern.

The Real Estate Internship is a multidisciplinary position that introduces the candidate to the full range of skills necessary to execute the real estate development projects that expand the supply of decent, affordable, and energy efficient homeownership units for residents with low and moderate incomes.

Essential Duties

The Real Estate Intern will be responsible for assisting the Director of Real Estate Development in activities related to:

  • Real estate pipeline management
  • Budgeting
  • Resource development
  • Entitlement and approvals
  • Prospect evaluation
  • Policy, advocacy, and outreach
  • Record processing and retention

In addition, the Real Estate Intern will closely collaborate with other key staff, including the Vice President for Construction, Vice President for Development, and the Director of Housing Programs.

Qualifications

  • Enrollment in an educational program in a related field, including but not limited to: real estate development, urban/regional planning, business/finance, and public policy. Equivalent work experience will be considered.
  • Strong organizational and management skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to work in a self-directed manner in a hybrid in-person/virtual work environment.
  • Demonstrated proficiency in the Microsoft Suite of applications, especially Excel.
  • Basic knowledge of at least some aspects of affordable homeownership development is preferred, namely existing affordable housing programs, the real estate development process, land use/zoning, and/or mortgage/real estate finance.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality in all aspects of the job.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and exercise excellent judgment in representing the organization.
  • Must be able to travel to meeting and site locations.
  • Ability to sit or stand for extended periods of time.
  • Must be able to lift up to 25 lbs.
  • General knowledge on the use of various types of office equipment.
  • Must be able to show proof of current and updated Covid-19 vaccination status and be willing to comply with all other CDC guidelines.
